Schubert's Winterreise

31st March 2021  I    7.00pm   I   Online

The iconic song cycle Winterreise, 'Winter's Journey', is the ultimate collection of soul searching songs by the romantic composer Franz Schubert, who wrote this music shortly before the end of his short life. It will be sung by bass baritone Jeremy Leaman, accompanied by pianist Beate Toyka. Both artists are UK Midlands based. They are connected in their love of German language and poetry as expressed in Schubert's beautiful music.

Beate will play Beethoven's stunning fourth Piano Concerto with the Derby Concert Orchestra, an ensemble which she is proud to have collaborated with extensively over the past 15 years. This concerto is very close to Beate's heart and marks the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth in 1770, which we were unable to celebrate as planned last year. Under conductor Jonathan Trout, the orchestra will also perform Vaughan William's iconic London Symphony and Marquez' fiery Conga del Fuego.
